THEA
The Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA), or an approved alternate test, must be taken in order to satisfy Texas Success Initiative requirements. The THEA test is scheduled approximately six times a year, always on a Saturday. OC offers the test alternately with UTPB and Midland College. Please refer to the registration information at the website for date and location information.
THEA is a paper and pencil test of skills in reading, writing (including essay), and mathematics. Examinees have up to five hours to complete one or more parts of the test. Testing fee is $29 paid directly to Evaluation Systems Pearson by check, money order or credit card. Registration is available online at www.thea.nesinc.com.
Minimum scores to satisfy TSI requirements have been set by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. They are:
| Reading - 230 | Writing - 220 | Mathematics - 230 |
Quick THEA
The Quick THEA or Q-THEA, is a version of THEA that is given at an institution’s discretion. The OC Testing Center generally schedules Q-THEA testing once each month and usually on the last Thursday of the month at 9 am. Please call us at 335-6620 to verify dates for Q-THEA.
No pre-registration is required, but payment of $29 must be included in the form of check, money order or credit card to Evaluation Systems Pearson – no cash is accepted for Q-THEA. Social security card as well as photo ID must be presented at time of testing. Examinees are allowed a five-hour time period to complete the three parts of the test: writing (including essay), reading and math. Scores are generally available about two weeks after testing and a copy will be mailed directly to the student from Evaluations Systems Pearson.
